What moves you from a person with good ideas to an effective leader?

As a business leader, you understand the importance of having a solid plan to achieve your goals. However, the real challenge lies in executing that plan effectively. This requires a clear understanding of your resources and objectives, but even more importantly a mastery of your executive functioning skills.

Executive functioning is how our brain helps us plan, organize, and stop ourselves from doing things we shouldn't do. People with ADHD may have trouble with their executive functioning, which is a common problem.

Unfortunately, for those of us who struggle with ADHD, this can be a significant hurdle. But by developing strategies to improve our executive functioning, we can unlock our full potential and succeed personally and professionally.

Psychology Concept of the Week

Executive function is a group of abilities that help us plan, set goals, control ourselves, follow instructions, and stay focused even when distracted.

5 tips that can help you improve your executive functioning

Break tasks into smaller steps: Breaking them into smaller steps can help make them more manageable and less overwhelming. It also helps with planning and organization.

Use visual aids: Visual aids such as checklists, calendars, and charts can help plan and keep track of tasks. They can also serve as reminders and help with time management.

Practice self-regulation: Self-regulation is controlling your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You can practice self-regulation by taking breaks when needed, using deep breathing techniques to calm yourself, and learning to recognize when you feel overwhelmed or distracted.

Get enough sleep: Sleep is vital for overall brain and executive functioning. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night to help improve focus, attention, and decision-making.

Exercise regularly: Regular exercise has been shown to improve cognitive function, including executive functioning. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week to enhance brain function and overall health.
